33: Thrifting and Sustainability on College Campuses with the University of Denver’s Center for Sustainability
“There’s a smarter way to get rid of your things than just throwing them away.”

Emily Schosid currently works at the University of Denver running the Center for Sustainability. She came to DU five years ago after serving as the Sustainability Planner for Virginia Tech. She earned an MS in marketing from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business in 2018, a master’s in environmental management from the Yale School of the Environment in 2012, and a BA in Environmental Studies in 2009. She's been a lifelong thrift store enthusiast, from buying her high school Halloween costumes from the local ARC, to volunteering weekly with the Blacksburg YMCA Thrift Store, to starting the DU Thrift Store this year.

Kayla is a senior at the University of Denver, dual-enrolled in graduate school at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. She will complete her BA in International Studies and Geography with a minor in Sustainability this June and her MA in International Development with an Environmental Security concentration next year. She has worked with the DU Center for Sustainability for three years and currently acts as the Thrift Store Manager. She is passionate about sustainability, slow fashion, and fostering community on campus which has made her highly motivated to run the Sustainability Marketplace which is forever trying to expand upon its three core values: equity, accessibility, and affordability.
